OUTREACH
“Somewhere out there right now is a kid who is tinkering. I know, because I was one of those kids. The sort that frustrates their parents by taking apart all of the birthday presents to see how they work. This curiosity, this passion for discovery, must be nurtured and encouraged throughout childhood and in our educational system. We cannot allow that fire of innovation to be snuffed out. We have to make it loud.”
The Kuhnigits' outreach team is dedicated to aiding the community and giving back. Through community service activities like trash clean-up and poverty aid, the outreach team works tirelessly to promote the team and the messages of FIRST. We have several goals including getting the entire team involved in community service and to expose our team to new sponsors and people.
Part of our overall outreach strategy has been to reach out to local and national level politicians to support and inspire STEAM related legislation and initiatives. We're reached out to everyone from Lieutenant Governor Jeff Colyer (R - KS) to former Governor Jay Nixon (D - MO). It's the belief of our team that the next great policy battle will be about how we adapt our educational system for 21st century innovations like the internet and the ubiquity of technology. In addition to this, we've also helped to better our community with various collection drives and visitation events. One of our most successful events has been our yearly Harvester's drive, which collected more than 1000 items over the course of three days.
This year we hope to expand the scope of our operations and reach out to more people in more ways than ever.
